Axial slip-friction connections for cross-laminated timber

چکیده
Cross-laminated timber (CLT) rocking walls limit internal building forces and dissipate seismic energy mostly through severe connection damage related wood crushing. While collapse-prevention life-safety performance can be achieved, the connections CLT are permanently damaged may unreliable for resisting aftershocks. Slip-friction (SFCs), also known as slotted-bolted connections, highly resilient passive dampers originally developed steel structures. As part of a thorough research program to apply SFCs walls, tests were conducted better understand novel application multiple modern technologies. The objectives design test slip-friction connected cross-laminated with inclined self-tapping screws (STS) determine stiffness damping properties assembly. SFC system was designed use hold-down in self-centering wall system. A series quasi-static, cyclic axial shown impart ductile elastic–plastic characteristics an otherwise non-ductile connection. Because limited below STS yield strength by connectors, no observed during sliding. Compared other sources, found excellent close typical idealized friction hysteresis models. unique using efficient connection, slack, that performs consistently after consecutive tests. Additionally, cursory equivalent-viscous-damping ratios extracted elastic range small amplitude excitations slip force threshold.

Cross Laminated Timber Construction for Resisting Lateral Loads on Six Level Buildings
The author’s intention is to contribute to the general discussion on timber multi-level commercial buildings. Interest in this topic is expected due to the environmental advantages of timber construction when compared to concrete and steel. This paper looks into three timber based systems for resisting lateral loads for buildings to six storeys, that will ensure relatively ‘open’ floor spaces. ...
متن کاملStabilizing stick-slip friction.
Even the most regular stick-slip frictional sliding is always stochastic, with irregularity in both the intervals between slip events and the sizes of the associated stress drops. Applying small-amplitude oscillations to the shear force, we show, experimentally and theoretically, that the stick-slip periods synchronize. We further show that this phase locking is related to the inhibition of slo...
متن کاملStructural Tests of Concrete Composite - Cross - Laminated Timber Floors Final Report
Experimental tests of a composite concrete-cross-laminated timber (CLT) floor system were conducted. The floor system was constructed with 5-ply CLT panels (6.75 in. thick) made composite with a 2.25 in. thick reinforced concrete topping slab. Four series of tests were performed using different specimen configurations and laboratory testing methods. Tests included: (1) Comparative one-way bendi...
متن کاملBending Properties of Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) with a 45° Alternating Layer Configuration
Bending tests were conducted with cross laminated timber (CLT) panels made using an alternating layer arrangement. Boards of Norway spruce were used to manufacture five-layer panels on an industrial CLT production line. In total, 20 samples were tested, consisting of two CLT configurations with 10 samples of each type: transverse layers at 45° and the conventional 90° arrangement. Sample dimens...
